The Western North Regional Co-ordinating Council with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Health Service, Regional Environmental Health and Sanitation Office and the Institutional Care Division of the Ghana Health Service of the Ministry of Health Accra held a Three (3) Training workshop which was facilitated by a Regional Facilitation Team (RFT ) made up of the quality manager of the Regional Directorate of Health Services – Mr Joseph Esson, the  Regional Environmental Health Officer – Mr. Paul Kwesi Nutsugah Jnr and led by the Deputy Director of Clinical Care of the Regional Directorate of Health with Ing. Senam Tengey Head of Medical Waste of the Jospong Group of companies and member of infection control African Network as the visiting and supervisory support trainer.

In a speech read on behalf, the Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Marion Okoh admonished participants who were made up of Environmental Health Officers and Mortuary attendants to take the training serious in order to be equipped with the required knowledge on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in the communities to prevent the spread of nosocomial infections and protect public. She expressed her appreciation to the World Health Organization (WHO) for supporting the training and urged all development partners to emulate the effort of the WHO and make budgetary allocation for capacity building of health personnel in the Region since it’s a new one.

The training covered Introduction to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Standard Precaution and Transmission based precaution, IPC consideration in Safe Burial, Hand Hygiene, Demonstration and Return Demonstration of Donning and Doffing of PPE, Cleaning and disinfection, Health Care Waste Management, IPC consideration on preparation handling and storage of dead bodies, Family and Community engagement during safe burial among others.
