Anti-Galamsey Operation
The Western North Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has formed a special task force to combat illegal mining in the region.
The special anti galamsey taskforce includes the Regional Police Commander, Immigration Service, Military, National Investigation Bureau (NIB), the National Security and the Regional Fire Commander.
The Western North Regional Minister, Hon.Richard Ebbah Obeng made this known at a press conference saying, the Special Joint taskforce would augment operation “calm life” to fight illegal mining in the region.
He said the task force had been mandated to wage a sustained war against illegal mining activities, which he said, was fast gaining notoriety in the region.
“The President’s directive to us as Regional Ministers is to ensure that illegal mining becomes an unattractive venture. It is in light of this that I protect our lands and water bodies for generations yet unborn,” he stated.
The Regional Minister said the Council would donate 30 per cent of its funds to support the activities of the task force.
Hon. Obeng disclosed that four excavators were impounded by the task force from the Asempanaye enclave in the Juaboso district and are parked at the premises of the RCC.
He urged persons who were interested to contact RCC for more information, adding that RCC was willing to support any individual or organization who wanted to engage in ethical and responsible mining.
